
Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on November 9, 1952. He earned a B.A. from Yale University in 1974 and an M.A. from Ohio State University in 1981. Brown served as a faculty member at Ohio State University, Mansfield, from 1979 to 1981. He was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives from 1975 to 1982 and served as Ohio Secretary of State from 1983 to 1991. Elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives, he served from January 3, 1993, to January 3, 2007. In 2006, Brown was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he served from January 3, 2007, to January 3, 2025, including terms as chair of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs during the 117th and 118th Congresses. He was not reelected in 2024.
