Senator Daniel Scott Sullivan of Alaska was born in Fairview Park, Ohio, on November 13, 1964. He graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1983, earned a B.A. from Harvard University in 1987, and received both an M.F.S. and J.D. from Georgetown University in 1993. Sullivan served in the United States Marine Corps from 1993 to 1997 and continues to serve in the Marine Corps Reserves, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel. He has held various positions, including White House aide and director on the National Security Council staff during the George W. Bush administration, assistant U.S. secretary of state for economic, energy, and business affairs from 2006 to 2009, attorney general of Alaska from 2009 to 2010, and commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources from 2010 to 2013. Elected as a Republican to the U.S. Senate in 2014, he was reelected in 2020 for the term ending January 3, 2027.
